Tallerman's Two Home Run Day, Can't Keep Pierce from First WSC Win

Tallerman's Two Home Run Day, Can't Keep Pierce from First WSC Win

Cuesta Baseball fell today in 12 innings against Los Angeles Pierce, 8-6, in the second game of this week's three-game series.  Cuesta entered today's game alone at the top of the Western State Conference standings, while the visiting Brahmas, who were shutout by the Cougars yesterday, 7-0, were winless against the circuit.  Cuesta still holds a one-game lead in the standings but missed a chance to add to their cushion with 13 games left against the loop.  The Brahmas struck first today with four runs in their second turn at the plate.  Pierce used a pair of both singles and doubles to score their first three runs and added a fourth tally on a passed ball before the Cougars stopped their rally.  2022 All State First Baseman Zachary Tallerman answered for the Cougars by leading off the next inning with a solo home run, but the Cougars didn't even the game until he also clubbed a three-run homer the next inning.  The two foes traded zeroes on the scoreboard for the next two innings, until the Brahmas' Sean Mann's two-run homer put the visitors back in the lead.  After the stretch, Infielder Isaiah Munoz launched the Cougars' third home run of the day to pull within one run and the Cougars sent the game into extra innings when Victor Heredia (pict) plated Ethan Royal on an RBI-single with two outs in the bottom of the 9th.  Both teams went scoreless in the 10th and 11th innings, but the Brahmas took advantage of an error to a score a pair of runs in the 12th, while the Cougars went down in order in the final turn at the plate.  The loss drops the Cougars to 14-7-1 overall and 8-3 against the WSC.

Cuesta completes its three-game series against the Brahmas tomorrow in Woodland Hills (1 PM) and prepares for next week's three-game series against Moorpark.  The Cougars are scheduled to play in Moorpark on Tuesday (2:30) and Saturday (1 PM), but also host the Raiders on Thursday (2 PM).
