Cougars Beat Oxnard in Make-Up Game, 87-67

Men's Basketball completed its season sweep over Western State Conference foe Oxnard with a convincing victory in their COVID make-up game, 87-67.  The Cougars beat the Condors by a single point in their first meeting in Oxnard, but their second win moved them within a game and a half of the top spot in the WSC with two games to play.  The Cougars play at Moorpark on Wednesday (5 PM) and host Ventura on Friday (5 PM) to conclude the regular season.  Cuesta beat the Raiders in overtime when they met at Cuesta in the first round and lost at Ventura on a late three-pointer.  Moorpark's playoff hopes have vanished, but the Pirates, at 19-2, appear to be shoe-ins, whether or not they can beat Cuesta again or claim the WSC crown.

Tonight, the Cougars handled Oxnard, thanks to the deft passing of Point Guard Japjit Gill and the pinpoint shooting of Small Forward Juani Dassie.  Gill posted a double-double with 10 points and 13 assists, while Dassie converted eight of his ten field goal attempts for a game-high 22 points.  Dassie also collected his first career double-double with a season-best 13 rebounds.  All five Cuesta Starters reached double digit scoring totals as the Cougars shot over 50% from the field and nearly 40% from beyond the arch.  Since the turn of the calendar, Cuesta has won nine of 12 games, but still need two more wins to have a chance to overcome their slow start to the season in November and December.
