Men's Basketball Falls to Rival Ventura in Season Finale, 79-63

Cuesta Men's Basketball concluded the 2021-22 campaign with a home loss to Western State Conference rival Ventura, 79-63.  Ventura beat the Cougars with a last minute three-pointer in their first meeting, but tonight the Pirates were able to pull away early in the second half, when the Cougars got into foul trouble.   Cuesta's Backcourt of Japjit Gill and Darryl Brooks II kept them in the game, while joining Forward Ketan Sidhu as the only Cuesta players to reach double-digits in scoring.  Gill ended his career with one of his best games.  He scored a game-high 27 points, while dishing out a team-high four assists and tying Brooks for the team-lead with nine rebounds.  Brooks, the reigning Cuesta Team MVP, added 11 points, while Sidhu netted 13 points on his own.  The Cougars end the season 13-15 overall, which will keep them under .500 and out of the playoffs.  The Cougars also finish in at least in 3rd place in the Western State Conference.  The Cougars are 1.5 games out of second place in the WSC Circuit, behind rival Allan Hancock, who still has three COVID make-up games to play- including a pair against Ventura.
