Softball Sweeps Moorpark To Remain Undefeated

Cuesta Softball remains undefeated after sweeping a doubleheader at Moorpark, 12-9 and 10-8.  The Cougars have only trailed for one full inning this season and have run out to 6-0 start.  Cuesta bent, but never broke against the Raiders and answer every rally from the home team with a counterstrike at the top of the next inning. Katie Lamar and Natalie Ziegler both enjoyed huge days at the plate.  Lamar was 4-for-6 with five runs scored and four driven in, while Ziegler was 4-for-7 with four runs scored and five driven in.  Pitchers Maddy Mata and Leea Brown each went the distance in the pitching circle to earn a victory on the day.

GAME ONE: CUESTA 12, MOORPARK 9

In the opener, Moorpark scored twice in the first inning, but Cuesta responded with four runs in the 2nd and built an 8-4 lead going the final two frames.  A Grand Slam by Victoria Villegas tied the game and two batters the Raiders held a 9-8 lead.  Of course, this flurry awakened the Cuesta bats and a pair of two-run home runs from Katie Lamar and Natalie Ziegler put the Cougars in front for good, 12-9.

GAME TWO: CUESTA 10, MOORPARK 8

In the nightcap, Cuesta took advantage of a crucial error to post three runs in the 2nd inning, but, once again, the Raiders tied the game in the 4th and took a brief lead in the 5th, 7-4.  The Cougars retaliated with six runs in their next at-bat and cruised to victory, 10-8.
