Softball Splits Twinbill with Porterville, 2-0 and 6-1

Softball hosted Porterville for a non-conference doubleheader and after a slow start in the opener, a 2-0 loss, the Cougars came storming back to take the nightcap, 6-1.  Freshman Righthander Bella Garcia (pict) took the hard luck loss in the opener, as the Cougars' offense went scoreless, despite out hitting the Pirates 7 to 6.  Garcia went the distance in the setback, while allowing only one earned run.  The Cougars' offense still needed a few more innings to warm up and was also scoreless for the first four innings of Game 2, yet after 11 scoreless innings pounded out six runs in their final two at-bats to win Game 2, 6-1.  Pitcher Hannah Hollingsworth scattered four hits as she waited for her run support and survived an unearned run in the 5th to improve her record a sparkling 4-0 on the season.  Shortstop Reese Tartaglia led the Cougars' offense on the day with a par of multi-hit games.  The Freshman Pivot was 4-for-5 with one run scored and five driven in, plus a pair of walks and a stolen base.  The Cougars are currently 6-8 on the season.

Cuesta Softball returns to its Western State Conference schedule with two games next week, before hosting another non-conference doubleheader on Friday.  The Cougars travel to Woodland Hills on Tuesday (2:30) to play Los Angeles Pierce in a WSC contest, before returning home to host local rival Allan Hancock on Thursday (2:30).  Cuesta also hosts College of the Siskiyous for a twinbill on Friday (12/2 PM)
