Cuesta Basketball hosted local rival Allan Hancock in a Men's and Women's WSC Doubleheader. The women's teams opened the night with a barnburner between the visiting Bulldogs and the host Cougars. Cuesta posted a game-high 23 points in both the first and third quarters, while the Bulldogs took the even periods, which included a final push for the victory in the finale. The Cougars grabbed a narrow lead, 23-21, in the opening ten minutes, but the Bulldogs entered the intermission with a 40-37 lead. The rivals tied in the third, but Allan Hancock outlasted the Cougars in the final frame, 20-14, to win the game, 83-74. Both teams were led by their returning All-WSC Guards. Bulldog Sophomore Alexandria Paquet led all scorers with a career-high 32 points, while Cuesta's Olivia Missler added a career-high 29 points to lead the Cougars. Missler and the Cougars also received some help from Freshman Forward Abigail Lacy. Lacy added a double-double to the Cougars' cause with 22 points and 10 rebounds in the losing effort. The loss drops the Cougars to 7-11 overall and 0-2 against the Western State Conference.
The Cagers are back on the hardwood in Oxnard this Saturday for another WSC Twinbill. The women open the doubleheader at 1 PM and the men's game shall follow with a 3 PM tip-off. The host Condors and the visiting Cougars represent two of the three WSC teams still searching for a conference victory. The Bulldogs, along with #8 Moorpark, represent the only undefeated teams remaining in the WSC. They will meet in Moorpark this Saturday (1 PM).
