Cuesta Women's Basketball won its first two games of the season by hefty margins, 25 and 17 points, but ran into a loaded Sequoias team and suffered their first setback of the season, 98-51. The Giants' new Coach Tyler Newton took Butte College to the CCCAA Semi-Finals last year and three of his all-State Roadrunners followed him to Visalia. The Cougars were also a playoff team last season, but only returned on all-Conference player, Reese Pasternik. Pasternik did her job and led the Cougars with a team-high 19 points, while adding seven rebounds, but the Giants' threesome (Campbell Veig, Jocelyn Medina and Morgan Trigueiro) combined for 53 points, 16 rebounds and 11 assists. The Giants took a big lead into the intermission, 52-15, but the Cougars never backed down and more than doubled their first half output. Cuesta's Freshman Forward Kaylee Batten netted ten points in the game to give the Cougars a pair of double-digit scorers, while returning Point Guard Bella Musolff added a game-high five steals on defense and dished out a team-high six assists on offense. The Cougars are 2-1 on the young season.
Cuesta has postponed its next scheduled game against Porterville and have an eight-day break before their next games. The Cougars are set to host back-to-back games against San Jose Mission and Santa Ana on November 15 (6 PM) and 16 (2 PM), respectively.
