Spikers Maul Marauders in Three

Cuesta Women's Volleyball finally hosted Antelope Valley in a make-up game from September.  The Cougars made the most of the opportunity and swept the Marauders- 25-21, 25-8, 25-21.   In the opening set the two teams traded the first 16 points, but then Cuesta went on a 12-3 run to take control.  The Cougars stalled at 20 and Antelope Valley went on a 11-5 of their own and even held on three four set points in the 25-21 loss.  The Marauders were spent after losing the first set and Cuesta rolled over them in the next set, 25-8, to take control of the match, 2-0.  The final set was again touch-and-go as the two teams split the first 40 points, 20-20, but Cuesta pushed through for the final victory, 25-21.  The Cougars improve to 13-9 on the season, while Antelope Valley falls to 5-10 overall.

Returning Freshman Christelle Mouret (Morro Bay HS) led the Cougars with nine kills and added a pair of assists, while fellow Outside Hitter Teagan Bryant (Exeter HS) landed eight kills and posted a team-high 18 digs in her first game back off the injured reserve.  Overall, the Cougars scored 37 of their 75 points on kills, with 25 of them assisted by Setter Kelsey Courtney (Cincinnati, OH).

The Cougars travel to Moorpark tomorrow (6 PM) for their final Western State Conference (WSC) North Division match.  The Cougars are locked in 4th place behind three of the State's Top 20 teams, including Wednesday's foe, the 11th-ranked Raiders.  The Cougars are knocking on the door of their first playoff berth since 2007.  They are currently ranked 18th in the CCCAA's Southern California Region with top 18 teams earning a post-season bid.  The Cougars have also won a coin flip and will host the WSC Crossover game against the 4th place team in the WSC-South on the final day of the regular season, Wednesday, November 17.  The two teams battling for 4th place in the WSC-South are currently Citrus and this evening's foe Antelope Valley.
