Cuesta took an early lead in Thursday's game at Allan Hancock, but the Bulldogs battled back to win, 6-4, in the second of five schedule contests betwen the local rivals.
A Base-hit to lead-off the game by Kirk Woolf and a Free Pass to Justice Gibbons set the stage for Cuesta the early lead. Woolf scored on AJ Esperanza's single and one batter later Nicholas Castro plated Gibbons with a Sacrifice Fly. The Bulldogs cut the lead in half in the bottom of the frame and took their first lead in the 5th inning, 4-2. The Cougars evened the game in the 7th on Jayden Cabbab's solo home run and a Sacrifice Fly by Woolf to score Jake Robinson. After the stretch, Allan Hancock scored one-run in each of their last at-bats to pull away with the victory, 6-4.
Woolf did his job at the top of the line-up by going 3-for-4 with a run scored and another driven in to lead the Cougars' offense. The Cougars also got a boost from Freshman Jake Robinson, who impressed in his first collegiate game as an Outfielder. A Releiver by trade, Robinson was perfect on his lone chance in Leftfield and was 2-for-4 at the plate with a Double and a run scored.
The Cuesta Nine is 1-3 on the season and back in action this Saturday at Oxnard. The Cougars and Condors will play two on the day, with the opener at 11:30 and the nightcap scheduled for 2:30.
