Cuesta Women's Volleyball split their first six games on the road, before returning home to face the Porterville Pirates in their home opener. The Cougars never let the Pirates get of the teens in a dominant three-game sweep (25-14, 25-13, 25-18). The Cougars jumped out quickly, 20-11, and easily took the first set, 25-14. In the second set, they bolted to their second straight 19-10 lead and claimed five of the next three points to reach game-points, however the Bucs stood firm and picked up two more points to succumbing to the Cougars' pressure, 25-13. After opening with big leads in each of the first two sets, Porterville matched the Cougars point-for-point in third set, while also briefly taking the lead, 12-11, at the midway point. Luckily, Cuesta held strong and rallied eight for the next ten points to regain control of the match. Cuesta completed its three-set sweep, 25-18, and improved to 4-3 on the season, while the visiting Pirates remain winless at 0-5.
Cuesta's Spikers one-match homestand, sends them back on the road to face Taft this Friday (5 PM). They shall not return to SLO and play Infront of their Cuesta Faithful until September 17 (6 PM), when they host inter-divisional Western State Conference rival Citrus. Coach Whitney Meyer's Spikers have faced Citrus, at least, once in each of her seven full seasons at the helm. She and her Cougars boast a 7-2 advantage in the rivalry, including all three of their intra-divisional playoff seeding games.
