Multi-Sport Star Caitlyn Chesson Named
Cuesta's 2020-21 Female Warren Hansen Scholar-Athlete of the Year
In 2002 the Cuesta Athletic Department established and named the Warren Hansen Scholar-Athlete Award in recognition of former Cuesta Athletic Director Warren Hansen's 36-year commitment to academic excellence. A student must maintain a 3.5 GPA and is also nominated on basis of their citizenship and athletic performance. This year's winner of the Female Warren Hansen Scholar-Athlete Award is multi-sport standout Caitlyn Chesson (Templeton HS).
Caitlyn Chesson (Templeton HS) is a two-sport competitor for Cuesta College and three-time Western State Conference Scholar-Athlete. She began her collegiate career as a member of the Cuesta Women's Soccer team and helped lead the Cuesta Kickers to their first playoff berth in 15 seasons. During her second semester at Cuesta, Chesson traded the pitch for the track and immediately became one of the team's top sprinters. The pandemic robbed her of both the end of her first track season and all her second season of soccer but, focusing on track all year allowed her to shine this spring. As one of the team's top sprinters, she he helped lead Cuesta Women's Track & Field to its first Western State Conference Championship since 1988. She competed in both the 200 and 400-meter runs and garnered all-WSC honors with a 4th place finish in the 400-meter race. Chesson's season-best time of 1:02.21 in the 400-meters also earned her the final place on Cuesta's All Time Top 10. Chesson is Majoring in Psychology and has posted a 3.91 GPA at Cuesta College.
Caitlyn shall represent Cuesta at the Conference and State level as Cuesta College's CCCAA Scholar Award nominees. Her nomination will move forward to the conference level in September.
Cuesta has earned more CCCAA Scholar-Athlete Awards than any other community college.
