CUESTA COLLEGE ANNOUNCES 2023 FALL ATHLETIC HONOR ROLL

CUESTA COLLEGE ANNOUNCES 2023 FALL ATHLETIC HONOR ROLL

Cuesta Athletics has compiled the names of 64 individuals who have risen to the top of Cuesta College's 2023 Fall Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll, including several repeat honorees.  The success of Cuesta's student-athletes is significant, as is the fact that 66% of Cuesta College athletes made the honor roll and earned 2023 All Western State Conference Academic Team status.  Cuesta athletes traditionally excel in the classroom and this semester was no exception.  Cuesta's athletes combined to complete 91.9% of their units and post a program-wide 3.157 GPA.  The average athlete was also loaded well above fulltime status with an average of 15.0 units on the semester.

The Cuesta Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll recognizes the student-athletes who have completed 12 units during the past semester with a grade point average of at least a 3.0 and finished in good standing with their respective team. This year the honor roll boasts representatives from each of the seven fall sports and both basketball teams.  The women's cross-country team led the way with a combined 3.825 grade point average, while basketball led the men's teams with a 3.529 GPA. Men's basketball, along with women's basketball, women's volleyball and women's soccer qualified as nominees for both the Western State Conference and CCCAA State Scholar Team awards.  Cuesta boasts a state-leading total of 33 teams to earn a CCCAA/Pepsi Scholar Team award since 1999 and should add to that total this year.  Cuesta has won more CCCAA Scholar-Athlete Awards than any other California Community College.

The Cougars also expect to reap some individual honors at the state level; nine Cuesta student-athletes earned straight "A's" during the semester- including All Americans Dante Ianora (Water Polo- pict-L)) and Anthony Erikson (Cross Country- (pict-R). Ianora and Erikson also joined eight other honor roll athletes to combine great academic prowess with superior athleticism by also earning honors as 2023 All Western State Conference First Team selections in their field of competition.  The decet of double winners represented four of the seven fall sports.  Men's Water Polo had five players tabbed as all-WSC First Team, while also landing a spot on the Cuesta Honor Roll.  Poloists Jake Burns, Oliver Finley, Austin Majus and Yvano Voigt all joined Ianora to pull off the double as they starred in both the tank and their books.  On the women's side, Harriers Elle Casselman (2nd Team) and Summer Gelman (HM) joined Poloist Chloe Porter (2nd Team) to all earn both all-WSC First Team and all-State awards in competition, while reaching the honor roll in the classroom.
