Cuesta College Athletics History

Since opening in 1965, Cuesta College’s intercollegiate athletics program has carved out a unique niche that is perhaps unmatched by its Community College counterparts. In its rich and proud athletics history, Cuesta coaches and student athletes have earned acclaim for attaining a high level of excellence and sportsmanship.  Since the start of the 1965-66 academic year, Cuesta athletics teams have won nearly 150 conference championships and more than 400 students have earned All-America or All-State accolades.

Cuesta College sponsors 15 intercollegiate athletic teams. The college fields baseball, basketball, cross country, swimming, track, water polo and wrestling teams for men, while women compete in basketball, cross country, soccer, softball, swimming, track, volleyball and water polo.

Cuesta is a member of the Western State Conference (WSC), an 18-college Southern California Region based league that stretches from Barstow to San Luis Obispo. Other member schools of the WSC include Allan Hancock, Antelope Valley, Bakersfield, Barstow, Canyons, Citrus, Glendale, LA Mission, LA Pierce, LA Valley, Moorpark, Oxnard, Santa Barbara City, Santa Monica, Ventura, Victor Valley, and West LA.

Cuesta College is one of the finest academic community colleges in the Country and its student athletes reflect the emphasis on scholarship. Over the last decade Cuesta has had ten student athletes named to the State Scholar Honor Roll; including State Winners Joe Hatke in 2000, Jeremy Waldram in 2003 and Malte Kramer in 2014.
