Peter Schuler began as Cuesta College’s Sports Information Director during the 1995-96 school year and has helped the department evolve into one of the standard bearers for the State.  He began his tenure in time for the school’s 30th anniversary and researched a comprehensive history of the program.  He also developed the annual yearbook and team brochures to fill a vacancy in the department's recruiting and marketing potential.  Peter has also been involved with and helps update the department’s website, as well as working with the national and local media in the promotion of Cuesta Athletics.   Most people recognize him as the voice of the Cougars and as the host of Cuesta Sports Monthly on the local television station.

In 1994 Peter, a former Cuesta student, graduated from Pepperdine University with a Bachelor’s Degree in History.  In his final year in Malibu, Peter got a chance to work in the athletic department and enjoyed working behind the scenes of a big time program.  After returning to coach and teach on the Central Coast, Peter accepted the Sports Information Director position at Cuesta College in 1995, while continuing to coach the college’s water polo team until 2021.  In 1999, Peter helped found the California Community College Sports Information Association and served as that body’s president from 2005-2008.  He also served for three years as a member of the Management Council of California Community College Athletics Association.  In 2011, he earned the CCCSIA's prestigious BRASS TOP Award for excellence in the field of sports information. Peter has been the CCCAA's State SID for water polo and swimming for several State Championships and for nine years he published the men's and women’s water polo newsletter and poll, before helping the push for the umbrella CCCAA website that houses all sports.  Peter has also worked for the basketball and baseball State Championships as a scorekeeper, announcer and radio color commentator. In 2008, he completed his Master’s Degree, with distinction, at nearby Cal Poly SLO in Educational Leadership and Administration.
