Former Cuesta Baseball Star Zach Torra selected as an NCAA All American for UC Santa Barbara

Torra, a Junior at UCSB, was named to the 2020 Collegiate Baseball Division I All-American Third Team, the publication announced Tuesday. Torra posted a 3-0 record with a 0.36 earned run average in four starts across the shortened season, in which the Gauchos were off to a hot 13-2 start.

Torra was just getting started on an incredible statistical campaign. Over 25.1 innings pitched, the southpaw held opponents scoreless in three of his four appearances, and opponents batted a dismal .133 against him. Torra surrendered only one earned run while striking out 39 of 83 batters faced. One of his best performances of the season came on Feb. 29 came against the University of Illinois at Chicago, when he struck out a dozen UIC Flames and allowed no runs on only one hit over seven innings.

While he was at Cuesta, Torra was accorded all-Western State Conference Second Team honors after leading the Cougars to the 2019 CCCAA Playoffs. He posted a team-high 80.2 innings over a team-leading 13 starts and struckout a team-leading 84 batsmen. Torra had a 5-5 record on the season and was second on the team with 2.57 ERA, which also ranks 10th all time for a season at Cuesta College. (Action shot from Lompoc Record)
