Baseball Hosts Pierce for a Pair of WSC Games this Week

Baseball begins its third week of Western State Conference play with a three-game series against Pierce. The Cougars host the Brahmas on Tuesday (2 PM) and Saturday (1 PM) and play the sandwich game in Woodland Hills on Thursday (2 PM).  The Brahmas are winless in WSC play and only 3-12 on the season, but both teams trail one-loss Moorpark in the circuit's standings.  The Cougars have won a loop-leading 17 titles since joining the WSC in 1983, while the rest of the conference's teams own a combined 29 titles.  The Cougars last title came in 2016, but they did hold a two-game lead in the standings, with four games to play, when the 2020 season was cancelled.

The Cougars played a three-game series with local rival Allan Hancock last week.  The Cougars won the opener in Santa Maria, 20-8, but lost at home in a heartbreaker, 10-8, two days later.  The Bulldogs claimed the series back in their own park on Saturday.  Allan Hancock overcame an early Cuesta lead with nine runs over the last four innings to earn the comeback victory, 12-5.   Cuesta is 8-11 overall and 4-2 against the WSC
