Cuesta College Athletics Department is proud to announce this month's selections for the Cuesta Athlete of the Month. This distinct honor recognizes two Cuesta College Athletes each month during the school year who have performed to the highest standards in their sport. Our male selection for March is Pitcher Ben Broughton.
Returning Freshman Pitcher Ben Broughton has developed into one of the premier hurlers in the State. He earned State Pitcher of the Week honors to start the month, after authoring a one-hit, shutout against #10 Sequoias. Two weeks later, on March 15, he followed that up with the first no-hitter in Cuesta history against Moorpark. He went 3-1 over the past month, while posting a 2.22 ERA over 28.1 innings of work. Broughton's pair of whitewashings also placed him only one shutout behind Brendan Jenkins's school record set in 2015. He is currently 5-1 on the season with a 2.43 ERA, 5th all time at Cuesta, in 59.1 innings pitched.
Cuesta Baseball ended March in first place in the Western State Conference with a 13-2 record against the circuit and a 17-11 overall record.
