Baseball Pushes Towards WSC Title in a Three-Game Final Week

Cuesta Baseball owns a 2.5 game lead with three game left on the schedule.  The Cougars, 23-14 overall and ranked #21 in the State, won three of their four games last week and our chasing a conference title and playoff berth this week.  The Cougars opened last week with a pair of solid wins at home against Ventura, 7-5, and Allan Hancock, 11-5, but their bats abandoned them over the weekend.  Cuesta lost at Santa Barbara, 2-1, on Friday, which marked their third straight loss to the Vaqueros.  Santa Barbara is the only team to beat Cuesta over their past 18 games, a run that began on March 8.  Returning Freshman Pitcher Nico Martinez got the Cougars back on track on Saturday, when the Cougars beat Pierce in a game played at Oxnard, 2-1.  Martinez went the distance to secure the victory.

Cuesta opens the final week of the 2022 regular season at Moorpark on Tuesday (2:30), before returning home to host Oxnard on Friday (2:30).  A couple of wins to open the week would clinch the program's 18th Western State Conference title, however the Cougars close the season at current 2nd place team, Santa Barbara, on Saturday (1 PM).
