Lardner's Gem Ends Cougars Slide, Cougars Host Moorpark Today

Baseball was alone atop the Western State Conference standings before dropping three straight gamesover the past two weeks, including a pair to cellar-dweller LA Pierce.  Thankfully, Freshman Southpaw Robinson Lardner stopped the slide with a shutout over Moorpark in the second game of last Saturday's doubleheader against the Raiders.  Moorpark took the opener, 4-3, as the Cougars collected a season-low five hits in support of Ace Jackson Cloud, who was saddled with his first loss of the season.  In the nightcap, Lardner played it safe and shutout the Raiders, while facing only 28 batters; one over the minimum.  On offense, the Cougars nearly equaled their offensive output of their previous three games (13 runs) in an 11-0 thumping of the Raiders.   The Cougars are 15-10-1 on the season and currently in second place in the WSC, one-game behind local rival #13 Allan Hancock. Cuesta is also ranked 6th in the regional poll.

Cuesta only has one game on the schedule for this week.  Cuesta wraps up their series against Moorpark by hosting the Raiders on Monday (2:30) in a make-up game.  Next week, Cuesta shall co-Host the Cuesta/Hancock Spring Break Tournament.  Cuesta is set to play East LA on Wednesday (2 PM), #4 Cypress on Thursday (2:30) and, #15 Merced on Friday (1 PM)
