Baseball Takes Two-of-Three Against #4 Orange Coast, Hosts Reedley on Friday

Cuesta Baseball improved to 4-2 on the season after knocking off another Top 5 team in a three-game series.  The Cougars, pre-season ranked #8, opened the season by taking two-of-three games in a series against #3 Riverside and this week took two-of-three games from #4 Orange Coast.  The Cougars and Pirates both came out swinging in the series opener as the foes pounded out a combined 26 hits and 23 runs.  The Bucs had two more hits, but Cuesta's Jack Clothier's double scored Mikey Bell in the 8th inning to break a tie and put the Cougars ahead for good.  Bell's run also provided Reliever Andrew Seibert the margin to earn his second victory of the season, 12-11.  The Cougars bats remained hot in the second game of Friday's doubleheader, while Sophomore Starting Pitcher Woody Brennan baffled the Bucs' offense.  Bell starred again as he smacked a pair of homers and drove in six runs, while scoring four times.  First Baseman Hayden Kline also added a home run as the Cougars counted seven extra-base hits among their 13 safeties.  Brennan took advantage of the support and went the distance on the mound, while only allowing one run on two hits to the Pirates.  In Saturday's series finale, Orange Coast defended its Top 5 ranking and its home field with five runs in the first two innings.  Cuesta eventually closed the gap before the stretch, 5-3, on Sophomore First Baseman Pranav Sundar's three-run home run.  Unfortunately, the Cougars could not get any closer as both teams added another pair of runs before the contest concluded in the host Pirates favor, 7-5.  The Cougars are 4-2 on the season, while Orange Coast slipped to 2-4

This week the Cougars have already postponed their scheduled game against #11 Reedley Tigers from Tuesday to Friday (2 PM) at Cuesta Field.
