Cuesta's Slugging Cougars Lead State in Home Runs

Cuesta Baseball has been throwing the lumber around this Spring and currently leads the State in roundtrippers.  Six different Cougars have combined for 19 home runs over the season's first 11 games, including, a possible record, five home runs against #1 Saddleback last Thursday.  The Cougars hit only 27 home runs during their 42-game schedule in 2023 and still have plenty of time to chase the 2008 team for the most home runs under Coach Bob Miller with 61.  The recognized program record is currently set at 75 by the 1999 team,  which added six playoff games en route to the regional finals.  In 2002, Coach Larry Lee's final Cuesta team also slugged 74 home runs on the way to the 2002 CCCAA State Finals The current team has slugged its way to a 7-4 record while facing the #1, #3 and #4 teams in the State three times and the  #11 team twice.  Sophomore Jack Clothier is tied with Freshmen Mikey Bell and Hayden Kline (pict) with a team-high four home runs apiece.  They each also contributed a home run to the Cougars' five-home victory over top-ranked Saddleback on February 15. The Cougars begin Western State Conference play this week and host Santa Barbara City on Thursday (2 PM)
