Baseball Sweeps Porterville to Complete Non-Conference Schedule

Baseball has won five straight non-conference games during the Western State Conference's Spring Break and improved to 12-4 outside of the circuit.  The Cougars are now 23-7 overall and are currently riding a ten-game winning streak, including back-to-back games against Porterville.  Yesterday, Cuesta won in Porterville, 13-2, and turned around today to defend their home field with another win over the Pirates, 20-4.  Returning All-WSC Starter Jackson Cloud went six innings for the win in Porterville, while Freshman Lukas Ward improved to 3-0 on the season with five shutout innings, before four members of the Cougars' bullpen by committee closed out the victory.  On the week, Rightfielder Jack Clothier enjoyed his time against Porterville.  He went 6-for-12 with two Doubles and a Triple, while also scoring four times and driving in eight runs against the Pirates.  In today's game, Outfielder Makani Nabarro (pict) was the player of the game, after going 5-for-6 with two Doubles and a Home Run, while also both scoring three runs and driving in three runs.

The Cougars are currently 1.5 games ahead of Santa Barbara in the WSC Standings with nine games to play.  The team still has a lot of work left to secure their third straight conference title and fifth consecutive playoff berth, while also staying on pace for the program's first 30-win season since 2009.   The Cougars return to WSC play next week against Oxnard for their final three-game series of the season.  The Condors and Cougars have not played this season and will meet in Oxnard on Tuesday (2:30) and Saturday (1 PM), while also playing Thursday's (2:30) sandwich game in SLO.  After next week, Cuesta will play each of its conference foes one more time, while hosting Ventura, Allan Hancock, and Oxnard, but playing on the road at Santa Barbara, LA Pierce and Moorpark.
