Baseball Preps for a Five-game Week Against the WSC

Baseball is preparing for its biggest week of the season.  The Cougars expect to complete five games against the Western State Conference with both the WSC Crown and playoff berth in the balance.  The two-time defending WSC Champions open the week at Santa Barbara on Tuesday (2:30).  The Vaqueros have already beaten the Cougars twice this season and are sitting a half-game behind them in the WSC Standings.  Cuesta's Batsmen get a break on Wednesday and hope to win two games on Thursday when they host Ventura. The day shall begin at 1 PM as the Cougars and Pirates try to sort out their suspended game from March 4.  The contest was called for darkness as the two teams battled into the 13th inning knotted at 6-6.  Once that game is settled, they will commence with their regularly scheduled game.   The Cougars continue their homestand on Friday (2:30), when local rival Allan Hancock comes to SLO.  Cuesta shall complete the week on the road at Los Angeles Pierce on Saturday (1 PM) and then complete the regular season next week with games at Moorpark on Tuesday and against Oxnard in SLO on Friday (2:30).

Last week, the Cougars picked up there more Western State Conference victories with a sweep of Oxnard.  The Cougars completed the sweep with a victory in Oxnard, 15-6, on Saturday.  Freshman Austin Taylor (pict) entered the game in the 4th inning and earned his fifth victory of the season, with a lot of help from the middle of the Cougars' order.  Leftfielder Makani Nabarro feasted on the Condors pitching staff, while going 5-for-6 with two singles, a triple and two home runs.  He both scored and drove in four runs.  Behind Nabarro, Jack Clothier and Mikey Bell added to the onslaught.  Clothier set the table with four singles, while scoring three times and driving in a run.  Third Baseman Mikey Bell added for more hits, including a Double and Home Run, and cleaned up after him.  Bell scored twice and drove in three runs.  The Cougars are 26-7 on the season and 14-3 in WSC play.
