Men's Basketball has split its season-opening contests against the two West Hills' campuses.  The Cougars opened the season last week with a win over a ranked West Hills-Lemoore team, but fell to the unranked West Hills-Coalinga team in double overtime, 102-95, on Tuesday.  The Falcons, who used to be in the Cougars' conference back when they were just Coalinga College, took it to the Cougars in the first half and went into the intermission with a 14-point lead, 39-25.  Cuesta exploded out of the locker room to post 54-points in the second half, but the Falcons scored just enough to force overtime tied at 69-69.  Both teams scored 11 points in the first overtime, but after all-WSC First Team Forward Juani Dassie fouled out the Falcons were able to pull away for the win, 102-95, after 50 minutes of action.  Before heading to the bench, Dassie netted a career-high 25 points, however it was his teammate Aaron Russell that led all scorers with 29 points in the game.  Freshman Guard Drew Ardouin also cleared the 20-point barrier and led the Cougars with nine rebounds in the game.  Cuesta Freshman Mason Romano was all over the court chasing a triple-double during the contest.  Romano tied Russell with a team-high eight assists, while adding 13 points and eight rebounds.  The Cougars are 1-1 on the season

This weekend the Cougars host the 53rd Hinson's Tire Pros Winter Classic this Friday and Saturday.  This is the sixth year that the Morro Bay business has hosted the tournament, but the tournament began in 1969, the fifth year of athletics and basketball at Cuesta College.
