Men's Basketball will bookend the Thanksgiving Holiday with a pair of contests. On Tuesday (5 PM), the Cougars travel to Ridgecrest to face the Cerro Coso Coyotes and on Saturday (3 PM) they return to Stork Gym to host the #9 Cabrillo Seahawks. The unranked Coyotes are 2-2 on the season, including a pair of one-basket outcomes against Cuesta's Western State Conference rivals Moorpark and Santa Barbara. Cerro Coso beat Santa Barbara, 64-61, and fell to the Raiders, 55-53, but, more importantly, they also represent Cuesta's first opponent from the CCCAA Southern Region. Cabrillo is the Cougars' fourth ranked opponent on their pre-conference schedule. Cuesta did not make the Top 30, for their region, in the pre-season rankings, but have already beaten #17 West Hills-Lemoore and pushed #2 Sequoias and #16 San Mateo to the limit.
Last week the Cougars split a pair of games at the San Mateo Classic. Cuesta fell to host #16 San Mateo on a buzzer-beater, 68-67, but bounced back with an offensive explosion against Merced, 114-98. Freshman Guards Drew Ardouin (pict) and Aaron Russell (pict) led the Cougars' offensive onslaught against the Blue Devils. Ardouin converted eight three-pointers to post career-high 37 points, and Russell added 25 points, while also dishing out a game-high seven assists. The Cougars are 3-3 on the season.
