Men's Basketball Trades Turkey for Seahawk in win over Cabrillo

Men's Basketball won another close game to even their season at 4-4.  The Cougars knocked off #9 Cabrillo, 87-81, in a game that marked their sixth game decided by ten-points or less, but also their fourth game against a ranked team.  The visiting Seahawks and Cougars shared the lead throughout the first half; however, Cabrillo entered the intermission with a slight advantage, 35-33.  The Cougars made some adjustments during halftime and quickly took the lead and stayed out in front for most of the second half for the win.  The Cougars 1-2 backcourt punch did most of the damage as Guards Aaron Russell and Drew Ardouin both cleared 20 points (25 and 22, respectively) and pulled down a half-dozen rebounds. to lead the team.  Forward Mason Romano (pict) fouled out late in the game, but not before posting a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while also adding five assists.  The Cougars are 4-4, so far, during their pre-conference schedule but are also currently 16th in the State for RPI (Rating Point Index), which measures success and strength of schedule.

The Cougars, who also lost to Cerro Coso, 77-74, in a pre-Thanksgiving game in Coalinga on Tuesday, are back in action this week at the Grossmont Tournament in El Cajon.  Cuesta opens the three-day tournament on Friday (6 PM), December 2 against the host Griffins.  The Cougars will meet either Palo Verde or #8 Yuba in Saturday's semi-final round.  The other bracket is made up of #6 San Diego City, #16 Copper Mountain, Palomar and #8 LA Trade-Tech.
