Quick Start Gives #10 Cerro Coso a Win Over the Cougars, 67-57

Undefeated Cerro Coso came to San Luis Obispo and pulled off a victory, 67-57, over the host Cougars.  The visiting Coyotes led most of the first half, but Cuesta remained within a basket or two much of the first 20 minutes, until the visitors pushed the lead to 10 points, 43-33, just before the buzzer.  After the intermission the Cougars pulled back within range of the Coyotes but were unable to catch them as both teams put up 24 points in the last 20 minutes.  Cerro Coso's Destin Jenkins led all scorers with 21 points, while 2023 All-WSC Guard Drew Ardouin (pict-L) and Freshman Forward TJ Maveety (pict-R) both score 16 points to lead the Cougars.  The win moved Cerro Coso to 6-0 on the season, while the Cougars fell to 1-6.

Cuesta's Cagers will take a short break the next two days and be back on the hardwood this Saturday (3 PM) at Cabrillo College in Aptos.  The Seahawks entered this week with an undefeated record and are currently ranked #13 in the State.  The Cougars plan to keep banging their way through the State's Top 20 and prove they are better than their current record, which includes three losses against the State's Top 20. The Cougars next two games are set for the next two Saturdays.  This week, the Cougars play travel to the 13th-ranked Seahawks and next Saturday they hit the road to face #21 Merced.
