Cuesta Hosts 2021 WSC Swim & Dive Championships

Cuesta College hosts the 2021 Western State Conference Swim & Dive Championships this Saturday (11:30).  The Cougars won their first two WSC Mini Meets and are among the favorites for this weekend.  Cuesta Record Holder Lucas Esenwein joins 2019 All Americans Gabriel Browning and Satoshi Shinkawa to lead the Cougars.  Esenwein broke two-time State Champion Jeff Dacus's Cuesta Record in the 50-freestyle two weeks ago with a time of :20.81 and will be the favorite this weekend.  Browning and Shinkawa both earned All American honors in 2019, but they had their 2020 campaign knocked out by the pandemic.  Browning is also a two-time All American in water polo and is chasing his fourth All American honor; he was also Cuesta's 2020 George Silveria Student Athlete of the Year.  He specializes in the freestyle and currently ranks #8 all time at Cuesta is the 50-freestyle (:21.08), 5th in the 100-freestyle (:45.97) and 7th in the 200-freestyle (1:42.50).  The more versatile Shinkawa holds four Cuesta Top 10 marks, two in the butterfly (50 and 200) and two in the Individual Medley (100 and 400).
