Cuesta Men's Swimming Wins 43rd Cuesta-Arena Invitational

Cuesta Men's Swimming and Diving continues to dominate the competition.  The Cougars won their fifth straight meet of the season, despite claiming only six events.  Instead the Cougars used 19 Top 3 finishes, plus their tremendous depth, to crush the rest of the field.  The Cougars compiled 818.5 points over the two day meet and easily outpaced Runner-up Sierra's 749 points.  2021 Cuesta Male Athlete of the Year Lucas Esenwein was the Cougars only double event winner but did not lead the team in scoring.  He owned his specialties with titles in both the 50 (:21.07) and 200 (:46.19) freestyles, while adding a pair of runner-up finishes in the 50-backstroke and 200-freestyle.  It was the versatile Stash Perry, who was the meet's leading point scorer.  Perry scored 86 individual points, despite only winning the 200-freestyle (1:43.27).  Perry picked up his points with a trio of Silver Medals, he was 2nd in the 1650-freestyle (17:49.94), 200-individual medley (2:01.86) and, 500-freestyle (4:59.63).  Freshman Ethan Blum was the Cougars' only other event winner.  Blum broke Esenwein's school record, set on Thursday, by three-hundredths of second for a new record time of :23.80.

The Cougars stay home this week for a Western State Conference Mini Meet on Friday (11:30).  This Friday in the Aqua-Cats final home meet until the 2022 Western State Conference Championship on April 21-23
