Cuesta Men's Swimming Takes Early Lead in WSC Championships

Cuesta College is hosting the 2022 Western State Conference Swim & Dive Championships this weekend and the Cuesta Men's Team took an early lead on the first day of the three-day meet.  The Cougars swept the first five events of the meet and added one new school record.  2021 Cuesta Male Athlete of the Year Lucas Esenwein won the 50-freestyle, while crushing his own record.  Esenwein clipped more than a quarter-second off his former school record of :20.81 by touching in at :20.53.  The Cougars also received victories from Stash Perry (pict) in the 500-freestyle and Andrew Lopez (pict) in the 200-Individual Medley, while also claiming both the 200-Freestyle Relay and 400-Medley Relay to sweep the day.  The Cougars are chasing the program's 17th conference title and second in the row.  The men ended the first day atop the leader board with 236 points, while Ventura (165), LA Valley (152) and Bakersfield (151) remain within striking distance in the three-day meet.

The three-day meet continues tomorrow with Day 2.  The preliminary races are scheduled to begin at 9:30, while the Finals kick-off at 4:30.
