Cuesta's Aqua-Cats Dominate Day 2 of the WSC Championship

Cuesta's Aqua-Cats Dominate Day 2 of the WSC Championship

Cuesta Men's Swim and Dive has taken a commanding lead after completing the first two days of the 2022 Western State Conference Swim & Dive Championship.  The Cougars have compiled 607 points and head into the final day with nearly twice as many points as Runner-up Bakersfield, which has 319 points.  The Cougars won four of today's six individual races and both relays.  2021 Cuesta College Athlete of the Year Lucas Esenwein won the 100-Butterfly with a time of :51.47, which moved him into 3rd all time at Cuesta for the event, while anchoring the Cougars' winning 200-Medley Relay and leading off their victorious 800-Free Relay to cap the day.    The Cougars also received a pair of brilliant victories from Andrew Lopez and Stash Perry.  Lopez set a new Cuesta Record in the 100-Breaststroke, while finishing just ahead of teammate Dean Moody, who "showed" in the race and also made the Cuesta's All Time Top 10 in the event. Lopez touched in at :56.83 to break Austin Bauer's 2014 record time of :57.29, while Moody became the 7th Cuesta swimmer to break the one-minute barrier and landed in 6th with a time of :59.88.  Freestyler Stash Perry won the 200-Freestyle title with a time of 1:41.92, which placed him 5th all time at Cuesta, while his twin brother Ethan Perry moved up to second all-time at Cuesta with a runner-up finish in the 100-Backstroke (:52.91).  Cuesta Men's Swimming has nearly clinched its 17th Western State Conference title and should remain undefeated on the season.  Esenwein, Lopez and Stash Perry have all won a pair of event titles over the first two days and are tied for the meet lead with 40 individual points each. Cuesta appears to have a solid grasp on the WSC's team title appears, however the individual point title is still a three-way race among the three Cougars.

The final day of the 2022 Western State Conference Swim and Dive Championship begins tomorrow at 9:30 with the preliminary races.  The finals are scheduled to begin at 4 PM at Cuesta Pool.
