Men's Swimming Remains Undefeated After Claiming NorCal Title

Cuesta has not been an official member of the CCCAA's Northern California Region since 1982, but due to several events cancelled due to weather, the Cougars heading back North for the 2023 NorCal Invitational in Santa Rosa to see if they had been missed.  They had not.  Cuesta battled the best teams in the North and won a tight four-team battle for the top spot in the 11-team event.  The Cougars were one of the three teams to clear the 500-point marker and their Bronze in the meet-ending 400-free relay provided them a three-point advantage (593 to 590) over NorCal powerhouse Sierra for the title.  The Cougars brought only a dozen competitors to the meet 11-team, 140-person meet, and won only two events on the day, but they compiled 21 Top 3 finishes in the meet's 20 events.  Returning All American Stash Perry claimed both of the titles by taking the 100 (:46.86) and 200 (1:42.80) freestyles, however they were not his best performances of the day.  Perry also took 2nd in the 1,650-freestyle with a time of 16:23.66 to break Evan Norton's 2011 Cuesta record of 16:30.22.  Perry, who was also the 2022 Western State Conference Co-Swimmer of the Year, currently owns six Cuesta Top 10 marks (out of 18 events), including the 500-freestyle record and runner-up spots in the 100-individual medley and 1000-freestyle.  Sophomore Andrew Lopez, Perry's fellow All American and 2022 Western State Conference Co-Swimmer of the Year, did not win an event, but was the meet's second highest scorer, behind only Perry, with 63 individual points.

Swimming returns to its Western State Conference schedule this week, with a WSC Mini Meet at Santa Barbara on Friday
