Men's Swimming Heads to the 2023 CCCAA State Meet Undefeated

Men's Swimming boasts a hefty share of Cuesta Athletics' championship hardware with a college-best six podium finishes (Top 3 in State), including a Bronze in 2022.  This year's team has the talent, depth and experience to chase the program's first CCCAA State Title and the college first state championship since Women's Volleyball in 1986.  The Cougars are led by All American and two-time Western State Conference Swimmer of the Year Stash Perrywho leads an eight-man contingent to the CCCAA Swim & Dive Championships this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at East LA College.  Perry, who also earned all-State honors in water polo this past Fall, won three events at the 2023 Western State Conference Championships two weeks ago, however he and the rest of the Cougars did not begin their taper until after the securing their conference title.  They should be in peak form for the State Meet.

Perry, who is a distance freestyler will lead the Cougars this week.  He set Cuesta's 1,650-freestyle record (16:23.66) two weeks ago, while also owning the 500-freestyle (4:37.92) mark and ranking 4th all time at Cuesta in the 200-freestyle, albeit just .35 off All American Chris Reddick's 2013 record.  Fellow 2022 WSC co-Swimmer of the Year Andrew Lopez will join Freshman Ethan Merritt in the Breaststroke events. Merritt won a WSC title in both 100 and 200 Breaststrokes but will still have to fend off his teammate Lopez, who holds Cuesta's records for the 50, 100 and, 200-Breaststrokes.  All American Ethan Perry and up and coming Freshmen Gage Price and Zachary O'Connor should also pick up plenty of points. The versatile Ethan Perry holds Cuesta's 100-Individual Medley Record and Top 5 marks in all three backstroke events.  Price posted three runner-up finishes at conference meet and holds Cuesta Top 10 marks in the 100 and 200 butterflies, while O'Connor posted a pair of Silvers and a Bronze at the WSC Meet, including a Top 10 mark in the 100-breaststroke.  Returning All American Eron Ray and Freshman Tre Eade will join in for the relay events.

*This season marks the first time since 2007 that Cuesta Women's Swim & Dive will not score at the CCCAA Swim & Dive Championships.
