Men's Swimming Wins the 45th Finis Cuesta Swim & Dive Invitational

Cuesta Men's Swim and Dive continues to roll on as the Cougars won their third meet title of the season, among four starts.  Freshman Brady Lind finished 2nd in the meet, behind American River's Cayden Pitzer (96 pts), with 93 individual points.  Lind won the 100-individual medley with a school record time of (:54.60) and also claimed the 100-free (:47.13) and 50-freestyle (:21.64) titles, while finishing 2nd in the 100-backstroke (:54.12) and taking the Bronze in the 100-butterfly (:52.10).  Returning All American Ethan Merritt and Freshman Conner Rocha tied for 4th place in the meet, while Rocha all set two new Cuesta records in the butterfly. Rocha opened the meet by breaking Ethan Blum's record in the 50-butterfly, set in 2022, with a time of :22.97.  The men's 50-butterfly has only been a championships event since 2015, but Rocha knocked almost a second (.83) off Blum's former standard.  Rocha added another event title and another Cuesta record in the 100-butterfly.  He eclipsed Dom Magliari's 2013 record of :51.32 by 17-hundreths of a second with a time of :51.15.  Merritt, who already ranks among the Cougars' All-Time Top 10 in four events, went title-less on the weekend, but put together a solid weekend with five Top 5 finishes.

The Cougars return to their Western State Conference schedule this Saturday (11:30) for WSC Mini Meet #2 in Ventura. (Note: No marks have been reported for Thursday's Sprint Meet)
