Cuesta College Athletics Department is proud to announce this month's selections for the Cuesta Athlete of the Month. This distinct honor recognizes two Cuesta College Athletes each month during the school year who have performed to the highest standards in their sport. Our male selection for February is Thrower Gabriel Katches.
Returning Freshman Thrower Gabriel Katches is already in prime form and ranks atop the State's Leader Board in two events. Katches opened the season at the 2022 Western State Conference Relays, where he claimed an event title for the Cougars with a toss of 178-2 in the Discus. It was about ten feet off his Cuesta record mark, but an excellent throw for the initial meet of the season. A week later, Katches won two win two events at the WSC North Meet. Katches easily won the Shot Put, by seven feet, with a toss of 44-4.25. He also took the Discus, again, with a toss of 175-11. Katches is ranked #1 in the State in the Discus and 7th in the Shot Put
