Men's Track & Field Takes 5th at WSC Coast Meet

Cuesta Men's Track & Field played host to the Western State Conference's five other coastal schools for the WSC Coast Meet, while the rest of the circuit competed in the WSC's Inland Meet.  The Cougars claimed a pair of event titles and tallied 57 team points on the day.  Cuesta Record Holder Gabriel Katches won the Shot Put (42-10.5) but did not post a scoring mark in the Discus, his signature event, however Pole Vaulter Dean Dodge only needed to clear 12-2 to take his event for the Cougars' second title.  Cuesta also received a trio of runner-up performances on the day.  On the track, Sprinter Connor Prichard finished 2nd in the 200-meters (:22.14) and Cameron Avila cleared the 400-hurdles in :58.28, while Thomas Rodda (39-9.5- pict) finished 2nd in the Triple Jump.  Rodda also added a 3rd place finish in the Long Jump (18-8.25).

Cuesta Track & Field travels down South next week but will end up splitting the team.  Most of the team shall compete in the Vaquero Open at Glendale College on Friday, while some qualified for the Mt SAC Invitational on Saturday, however Heptathlete Savannah Shoemaker will compete at El Camino College in Torrance for the three-day 2022 Regional Hep/Dec Meet.  The top multi-event athletes in the CCCAA's Southern California Region will compete to qualify for 2022 CCCAA State Track & Field Championships, but also to earn bragging rights in their conference for the event.  Shoemaker ranks 5th all time in the Heptathlon at Cuesta, behind four former State Qualifiers (including two State Champions), after scoring 3,694 points in her first competition this season.
