Katches Wins Big in Mt SAC as Cougars Split Their Squad

Men's Track and Field split their squad between the Mt San Antonio Invitational and the Vaquero Classic, which were just down the 210 Freeway from each other, in Walnut and Glendale.  Thrower Gabriel Katches (pict) and Sprinter Evan Schweitzer were the only two performers to make the trip to Mt SAC.  Katches burst out of a recent slump to win the Discus with the second longest throw in Cuesta History at 187-9.  His toss easily won the competition and was just under a foot away from his own Cuesta Record.  Schweitzer made his first appearance since April 1 and finished 11th in the 400-meters with a time of :50.53.  In Glendale, Hurdler Cameron Avila posted a team-best 2nd place finish in the 400 Hurdles with a time of :58.12, while also taking 12th place in the 110 Hurdles.  The Cougars also received a pair of 7th place marks from Harrier Luis Cervantes and Steepler Axel Reich.  Cervantes cleared the 5,000-meter run in 16:06.59, while Reich negotiated the Steeplechase in 10:48.60.  Leaper Thomas Rodda posted the Cougars' final Top 10 Mark by clearing 40-2.5 in the Triple Jump.

Men's Cuesta Track & Field takes next week off and will be back in action at the 2022 Western State Conference Preliminaries at College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita on April 22.
