2022 Cuesta College Male Athlete of the Year Gabriel Katches and 2014 Cuesta College Female Athlete of the Year Riley Cooks both competed at the USTAF (United State Track And Field) Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon last week  Katches entered the national competition fresh off his State Title performance at the 2022 CCCAA State Championships in May, where he set a school record in the Discus at 193' 3".  Katches, who has committed to UCLA, finished 17th at the meet with a toss of 169-11 as his top scoring mark.  Cooks, who won a State Title for Cuesta in the Heptathlon, only competed in the Javelin and landed in 18th place with a throw of 132' 6.5".  After her time in SLO, Cooks went on to earn NCAA All-America honors at Long Beach State, where Katches's older sister Hannah currently competes, and also competed at the 2020 US Olympic Trials last year.
