Men's Track Takes 3rd at the WSC Coast Meet

Men's Track took the Team Bronze at the six-team Western State Conference Coast Meet, despite being the only school without an event title.  The Cougars still posted six podium-worthy events and five season-best marks.  Star Harrier Anthony Erikson (pict) led the Cougars on the track by placing in the Top 5 in the three longest races of the day. Erikson took 5th in the 800m (2:03.79), 2nd in the 1,500m (4:10.06) and 4th in the 3,000m to score a team-high 14 individual points.  Erickson's runner-up finish in the Mile was one of four Silvers earned by the team.  Hurdler Gal Rivlin was a half-second out of first place in the 400-hurdles (1:00.60), while Freshman Phoenix Popp took 6th in the 110 Hurdles (:17.46) and added his own Silver in the Triple Jump (39-8.25).  Pole Vaulter Kevin Sweeney and Freshman Multi-event Athlete Joseph Tugwell took second and third in the Pole Vault, but Tugwell was all over the meet.  He competed in five events, scoring in two, and was the Cougars second highest point-getter, behind Erikson, with 10 points.  He finished 3rd in the Pole Vault, right behind Sweeney, and 4th in the Javelin with a team-season-best mark of 132-5.75.  He also posted the program's top marks of the season for the both the High Jump (5-8.75) and Discus (98-11.75).

The Cougars have had three meets cancelled due to weather this season and have only two non-championship events left on their schedule.  Next week the Cougars shall travel to Moorpark for the Moorpark Open on Friday (All Day), before participating at the Vaquero Invitational in Glendale the first weekend of April.
