Men's Track & Field Looks Strong at Moorpark Open

Men's Track & Field posted six new season-best marks at the non-scoring Moorpark Open and have only one more meet before the 2023 Western State Conference Championships kick-off the post-season on April 21.  Hurdler Phoenix Popp (pict-L) and Pole Vaulter Kevin Sweeney (pict-R) were the Cougars' only event winners in Moorpark.  Popp won the 110-hurdles in a time of :17.48, before also taking 4th in the 400-hurdles (1:04.50), while Sweeney walked off with a blue ribbon in the pole vault by clearing a season-best 13' 5.5".   In the sprints, Connor Prichard and Zach Holland both put up team season-best times.  Prichard, who ranks 6th all time at Cuesta in the 200-meters, finished his race in :22.36, just under a second ahead of Holland, who later posted a team season-best time of :52.13 in the 400-meters.  In the distance events, Freshman Harrier Anthony Erikson took the Bronze in the 5,000-meter run with a season-best time of 15:45.67, while Sophomore Steepler Axel Reich finished 4th by knocking almost a half-minute off his 2022 time in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase (10:14.34).  In the jumps, Freshman Dylan Ervin posted a pair of team-best marks, while taking 2nd in the Triple Jump (42' 0.75) and 5th in the Long Jump (19' 6.5").

The Cougars travel to the Vaquero Open this Friday and Saturday at Glendale College.  It is the Cougars' final non-championship competition of the season.  The 2023 Regional Multi-event meet is also scheduled for this Tuesday and Wednesday at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, however, due to injuries, the Cougars are not planning to send any competitors to the event.
