Men's Track and Field Heads to WSC Finals

Men's Track & Field is prepped for a big weekend at the 2023 Western State Conference Finals this Friday in Moorpark.  Last week, the Cougars enjoyed a solid day at Antelope Valley College in Lancaster for the WSC Preliminary Meet but came home with only two points.  Decathlete Joseph Tugwell scored both points with a 7th place finish in the High Jump (5-8.75) in one of the day's five final events.

This Friday, Tugwell and the rest of the team compete at the 2023 WSC Finals in Moorpark.  Tugwell is signed up for the Javelin, Pole Vault and High Jump, but will also join teammate Phoenix Popp in the 110-hurdles final.  Popp and Gal Rivlin, who both posted season-best in the prelims, are also entered in the 400-hurdles.  In the unobstructed running events, Sprinter Connor Prichard is back for the 200m-final, while Harrier Anthony Erikson leads the distance team.  Erikson qualified for the 800m, with a team season-best 1:57.51, and 1,500m finals last week, joins fellow Harriers Jorge Merced and Jordan Reilly for the 5,000-meters.  The Cougars are also counting on all-WSC Steepler Axel Reich to join Freshmen Nic Moore and Deegan Miller as a scoring pack in the Steeplechase.  In the field events, Popp joins Dylan Ervin in the Triple Jump, while Tugwell competes in both the Pole Vault and Javelin.  In the Pole Vault, Tugwell will combine with Sophomore Dean Dodge and Freshmen Viktor Mejia and Kevin Sweeney in Cuesta's most decorated event. Cuesta's lone true Thrower Jackson Reilly will compete in this Discus.

The Cougars that advance out of the Western State Conference Championships will compete in the CCCAA Southern California Regional Preliminary Meet and Finals the first two weekends in May.
