Freshman Harrier Anthony Erikson Qualifies for the CCCAA State Meet

Freshman Harrier Anthony Erikson secured his second CCCAA State Meet appearance of the year with a qualifying time of 3:57.35 in the 1,500-meter final at last weekend's regional final.  He is the lone member of the men's track & field to advance to the State Meet.  Erikson's qualifying time was two seconds off his season-best time of 3:55.57 but keeps him within striking distance of a CCCAA State title.  The State Meet field is a dozen strong and the whole pack is separated by only a few seconds, so it should be a wide-open race.  Erikson has already competed against five members of the field at the 2022 CCCAA State Cross Country Championships, where he finished 44th in the State.  This weekend's race will be considerably shorter, and on a smoother surface than the cross country meets and to Erikson's advantage.  He currently ranks 6th all time at Cuesta for the event, however, if he needs further inspiration, his Cuesta Cross Country and current Distance Coach Connor Fisher is just 0.88 seconds ahead of him on Cuesta's All Time Top 10 for the 1,500-meters.  The 2023 CCCAA State Track & Field Championships shall be held at Modesto College this Friday and Saturday.

Note- Coach Fisher was named Cuesta College's 2015 Male Athlete of the Year after finishing 3rd at the 2014 CCCAA Cross Country Championship and crossing the line in 2nd place in the 5,000-meters at the 2015 CCCAA State Track & Field Championships.
