Erikson Earns All-State with 4th Place in the Mile, Leads Cougars to 30th Overall

Freshman Harrier Anthony Erikson personified the loneliness of the long distance runner, as the only member of Cuesta Men's Track & Field to qualfy to for the 2023 CCCAA State Championships.  Erikson, who also qualified for the CCCAA Cross Country Championships last Fall, ran like a veteran and finished 4th in the 1,500-meters.  His time of 3:57.14 was his second best time of the season, however his best time would have only moved him up one step on the podium.  In Cuesta history (since 1996), he is the third Cougar to reach the State Meet in the "Metric Mile" and slides between Chris Stehula's (2005) 4:02.89 and Brandon Messerly's (2015) 3:55.61, but they are all still chasing Kipp Ortenburger's (1994) school record of 3:51.00.   Erikson scored all of the Cougars' points and ledthe program to 30th place in the 37-team event.  He concludes his first season at Cuesta ranked 6th all time in the 1,500m (3:55.57).
