Men's Track Opens 2024 Campaign at Moorpark

Cuesta Women's Track & Field kicked off the 2024 season at last weekend's Moorpark Open. The event was non-scoring meet featuring athletes from all collegiate levels and professional clubs and the Cougars enjoyed some strong performances, including a new Cuesta Top 10 mark.  2023 All State Harrier Anthony Erikson finished 4th in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:35.73. The 3K is no longer a championship level race, but Erikson's time still earned him the #2 spot on the Cougars all-time Top 10, between a pair of former Cuesta College Athletes of the Year Sean McDermott(2017) and Connor Fisher (2015).  Decathlete Joseph Tugwell (pict) posted top Cuesta top marks in nine events, including the Decathlon.  Tugwell finished 3rd in the meet and landed just 61 points short of Cuesta's All-Time Top 10 list with 5,611 points in the Decathlon.  He currently holds Cuesta's top season mark for eight other events besides the Decathlon- 100m (:11.60), 400m (:53.47), High Jump (5-9.75), Long Jump (19-8.75), Shot Put (30-7.75), Discus (98-5), Javelin (111-1) and 110 Hurdles (:17.55).  Harrier Nic Moore beat him out for the 400m with a time of 4:22.76, while Freshman Owen Arreguy flew 13-9.75 to take the Pole Vault.  Freshman Sprinter Kainoa Carerra led the Cougars in two events.  He led a three-man Cuesta field in the 200-meters (:23.31) and the non-championship 60-meters (07.52)

Track & Field is back in action on February 16 at the 2024 Western State Conference Relays.  The annual pre-conference competition is scheduled for Ventura College this year.
