Cuesta College Athletics Department is proud to announce this month's selections for the Cuesta Athlete of the Month. This distinct honor recognizes two Cuesta College Athletes each month during the school year who have performed to the highest standards in their sport. Our male selection for September is Water Polo player Johnny Northcutt.
Johnny, a 2021 all-WSC Second Team selection, has stepped into a starring role during his sophomore season. He has become the focus of the Cougars' offense and leads the team with 28 goals, despite playing in only 11 of the Cougars 13 games. Johnny has been at his best against the best. He has scored 21 of his 28 goals in the Cougars' five games against fellow Top 10 teams. He is only ranked 38th in the State in scoring but has also not been in the tank long enough to score more than two goals against any of the Cougars' eight unranked opponents. Johnny has also been an efficient scorer and is shooting at a 68.3% clip for the season.
Cuesta Men's Water Polo is 12-1 overall and ranked #3 in the State Polls. The Cougars are chasing their 43rd straight playoff berth.
