3rd-ranked Men's Water Polo Finishes 2nd at Golden West Tournament

Men's Water Polo competed in the Golden West Tournament last Friday and Saturday and came home with 3-1 record and the Silver.  The nine-team event boasted eight ranked teams, including seven Top 10 squads.  The Cougars opened on Friday against the lone unranked team, San Joaquin Delta, and punished the Mustangs, 21-3.  The victory set them up against #5 Long Beach in a game both teams were eager to play.  Cuesta held a narrow, 6-4 lead at the intermission, but pulled away in the second half for a comfortable win, 13-6.  On Saturday, Cuesta met tournament host and current #2 Golden West.  The Rustlers beat the Cougars in their first meeting in mid-September with a three-goal run just before the first half to open up the game, but there was not much drama on Saturday.  Golden West scored the first six goals of the game en route to the victory, 13-6.   The setback did not slow down the Cougars for long, the Cuesta Poloists closed out the tournament with another win over Western State Conference rival #4 LA Valley, 10-8.  Cuesta is 23-5 on the season.

The Cougars have three non-CCCAA games scheduled this week, so their place in the rankings should remain unchanged.  On Friday, the Poloists travel to La Mirada for a twinbill against a pair of four-year schools.  They open against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (10:30) and also play host Biola (1 PM).  On Saturday, the Cougars return home for their final pre-WSC Tournament contest.  The Cougars host their Alumni at Noon.  Cuesta College shall also host the 2022 Western State Conference Tournament on November 4-5.
