Marsh Repeats as Cuesta Coach of the Year

Men's Swim & Dive Coach John Marsh has been recognized as the 2022-23 Cuesta College Coach of the Year. This year marks the fifth time Coach Marsh has been honored as Cuesta College Coach of the Year, including sharing last year's award with Track & Field Coach Brian Locher.   Marsh, a three-sport coach at Cuesta, has won three times for men's swim and dive and this is his second award for men's water polo.  In the Fall, Marsh led Cuesta's Men's Water Polo team to its school record 30th conference title since 1979, which also extended the program's unbroken playoff streak that began 44 years ago during the program's inaugural season.   This season, Marsh was accorded his eighth Western State Conference Coach of the Year award for men's water polo, which boosted his overall total to 14 honors across the three sports under his leadership  After winning the conference title, Marsh guided his poloists through the regional playoffs and to the 2023 CCCAA State Final Four.  The Cougars finished the season ranked 4th in the State, while boasting a 29-9 overall record that included a 3-4 mark against NCAA teams.  After the season, the Cougars cleaned up the awards with a program record nine members of the team, seven starters and two reserves, earning both all-conference and all-region honors. Marsh was also voted the 2023 CCCAA State Coach of the Year for the second time in over the past four seasons.

This award recognizes the highest level of coaching achieved at Cuesta College during a year of competition. It was first officially presented in 2009. The award is based on a mathematical formula that weighs a coach's individual performance as well as the on-field success of his/her team.
