Returning Freshmen Luis Cervantes (Santa Maria) and Jordan Reilly (St Helena HS) led a small pack of Cougars to the Bakersfield Invitational on Friday.  Cervantes won the race with a time of 22:17, while Reilly need just eight more seconds to complete the four mile course to take 2nd place in the field of 36.  True Freshmen Nicolas Moore (San Andreas) and Xander Mahan (Nipomo HS) was the only other Cougars in the field and both landed near the top in 13th and 15th places, respectively.  Cuesta has been battling injuries all season, so Coach Brian Locher has ben taking the long view and getting his harriers ready for the championship meets.  The Cougars only have two more races on the docket until they compete in the 2021 Western State Conference Championship on October 22.

Cuesta competes in the 2021 Western State Conference Preview Meet this Friday (2 PM) at Sheldon Arleta Park in Sun Valley, just North of Los Angeles Valley College.
