Cuesta Harriers Take 5th at WSC Preview

Men's Cross Country fielded a scoring team for the first time this season and finished 5th at the Western State Conference Preview Meet.  The WSC event boasted representatives from 13 conference schools at the meet, including eight full scoring teams.  The WSC Preview marks the first time in five meets this season that Cuesta has fielded a scoring team and all five Cougars scored in the top half of the 86-man field.  Returning Freshman Jordan Reilly (St Helena HS) enjoyed his best race of the season and led the Cougars to the tape.  He finished 10th (21:47.4) overall, just ahead of teammate Luis Cervantes (Santa Maria: Righetti HS), who finished 12th (21:57.7).  Cervantes had led the Cougars in every race thus far, so Reilly's jump to the front bodes well for the Cougars, who have just one more start before the 2021 Western State Conference Championship Meet.  Freshman Xander Mahan (Nipomo HS) was the third Cougar across the line, for the third time this season, and his 28th place (23:10.6) puts him within striking distance of joining Reilly and Cervantes at the front of the pack.  Sophomore Brenden Niller (Templeton HS) and Freshman Nicolas Moore (San Andreas) rounded out Cuesta's scoring team in 39th and 42nd places, respectively.

The Cougars travel to Visalia this Friday for their final tune-up before the 2021 WSC Championship on October 22.  The Cougars are scheduled for an 11 AM start at the Sequoias Invitational on the College of Sequoias campus.
