Men and Women Harriers Both Take 2nd in Visalia

Men's and Women's Cross Country both took 2nd place at the Sequoias Invitational on Friday in their final race before the Western State Conference Championship. 

Returning Freshman Julia Voss (SLO HS) earned her first overall victory with a time of 18:08.0 to lead the women's team, while Freshman Dulce Esquivel (SLO HS) and 2019 All-WSC Harrier Shannon Ferrall (Arroyo Grande HS), rounded out the Top 10 in 6th (18:57.2) and 10th (20:24.2) places, respectively.  Freshman Chloe Denham (Moorpark HS) and Returning Freshman Emily Mathein (Paso Robles HS) completed the Cougars' scoring team, crossing the line in 11th (20:29.2) and 13th (21:10.4) out of the 22-woman field.  

On the men's side, Returning Freshman Jordan Reilly (St Helena HS) continued to impress, while leading the Cougars for the second straight race.  He finished 3rd (15:59.3) overall and just ahead of teammates Luis Cervantes (Santa Maria: Righetti HS) and Xander Mahan (Nipomo HS), who also landed in the Top 10 in 5th (16:05.8) and 8th (16:05.8) places.   Freshman Nicolas Moore (San Andreas) and Sophomore Brenden Niller (Templeton HS) completed the Cougars scoring team in 15th (16:55.8) and 18th (17:18.6) places, respectively, in the 24-man field. 

The Cougars have two weeks until the 2021 Western State Conference Championships kicks off the post-season on October 22.   The race will be held at Legg Lake in Whitter.
